Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Officers state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered many other marked automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police state initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in relation with the event," they added.
City officials stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for details.
An important representative commented the vandalism rendered him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, recalling the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
