The network's Leading New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for Two More Seasons.
In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a serene talk show. During a period often defined by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."
Network Praise
Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky sensibility.
"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about observing this charming family navigate their daily lives.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to help comedy break out of its long-running cynical streak. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially help usher in that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to bask in the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
