Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.
Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
