A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future away from worry.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people yelling “six-seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to begin the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
